Survival from childhood cancer in India depends heavily on where a child lives. Cancer Kids Strength of Smile Charitable Trust exists to close that gap.
Most cancers in children respond well to treatment when they are caught early. In India many are found late or missed in smaller towns, and treatment is delayed while families travel to find a specialist.
Children with cancer need several specialists working together: an oncologist, a surgeon, a radiologist, a pathologist and often a counsellor. In metro cities that team exists. Elsewhere, a paediatrician may be working alone.
We built a network that brings those doctors together, links them to diagnostics and NGOs nearby, and gives parents one place to turn. When a child can be treated or followed up closer to home, the family saves time and money, and the child is more likely to finish treatment.
"For every right effort made together, a child with cancer gets hope to survive."
